Apple is reportedly working on its own AI-powered wearable device in the form of a pin that can be worn on clothing, according to a report by The Information. The device is said to feature two cameras and three microphones, signaling Apple’s growing focus on AI-driven hardware.
If the product makes it to market, it would indicate that the AI hardware space is rapidly heating up, with major tech companies exploring new form factors beyond smartphones and smartwatches.
The report comes shortly after comments made at the World Economic Forum in Davos by OpenAI’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, Chris Lehane, who said the company is likely to announce its first AI hardware device in the second half of the year. Speculation suggests OpenAI’s device could take the form of AI-powered earbuds.

Apple’s AI pin is described as being slightly thicker than an AirTag, with a thin, flat, circular design made of aluminium and glass. The wearable is expected to include two cameras, a physical button, a speaker, and a charging strip on the back, allowing it to attach easily to clothing.
The development suggests Apple may be preparing to compete directly with OpenAI in the emerging AI wearable segment. The AI pin is reportedly not expected to launch before 2027, and Apple may release it in limited quantities initially to test consumer demand.
The move would mark an experimental phase for Apple, as it remains uncertain whether consumers are ready for or need such a device. This cautious approach follows industry challenges faced by earlier AI hardware ventures, including Humane AI, which struggled with operational issues and was eventually shut down.
